| Faye Helena Khazam (a former law teacher and
barrister) has been painting full time since 2005 and has shown and sold
her work in solo and group exhibitions primarily in Montreal. Originally
a pastellist since 1985, she has worked in combinations of acrylic, collage,
conté and graphite. Her first solo exhibition was in 2006 at Town
of Mount Royal Library where she sold seven paintings. Following the close
of the exhibition, seven more paintings were sold as a result of the publicity
in local newspapers and by word of mouth. Since 2007, her primary
mediums have been pastel, watercolour and watercolour and ink. She is comfortable
working realistically or in abstract form and has recently been exploring
the sympathetic blending of watercolour and water-soluble ink to express
the spontaneous movement, luminosity and lyricism of watercolour.
In August 2008, she was awarded First Prize in the Mount Royal Annual Cemetery Art Exhibition where her paintings were described by the judges as “having a strong narrative that resonates beyond the picture frame”. At the exhibition, she received a private commission, which was successfully completed, and four of the six paintings shown at the exhibition sold within three months. The prize winning painting was subsequently bought by the Cemetery Acquisition Committee. Also, in the summer, she participated in a group exhibition in Maryland, USA, and the Salon d’Art in Town of Mount Royal in the fall.
