Artist Statement

I was born in Budapest, Hungary on October 14,1949. We escaped Hungary in 1956 during the
Revolution with Russia. We emigrated and made Montreal, Canada our home. After my birth, the doctor
at the hospital told my mother, "Your daughter is going to be an artist, see how she swirls her finger up in
the air as if she's already drawing." My artistic career started actually later than I would have liked. I was
in my early twenties when I started to paint. I took courses at a Montreal Adult Education Program. I took
many painting courses (still lifes, landscapes, people) in oils, with teachers such as, Deidre McKay,
Eric Slutsky, and Ghulam Mustafa. In 1984 I was accepted into Concordia's Mature Program. I graduated
from Concordia University in 1989 under professors Guido Molinari, Marion Wagschal, Laurier Lacroix,
and Warren Sanderson. In the second semester at Concordia I started to exhibit my paintings. Since those
days I have had over a hundred seventy-five exhibitions, solos, duos and groups. I also had an interest in
print-making in 1990-91. I took a woodblock reduction relief print course with professor Bonnie Baxter.
My printing career resumed in 1996 at the Saidye Bronfman Center for The Arts, Montreal, Canada
working with silkscreen, and collography.
