LOUISE BLOOM SPUNT
| I was born in Montreal,
Quebec on January 1, 1947.
As a very young person I discovered my love for drawing and painting. I had the wonderful privilege of attending the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts Saturday morning children’s program. I remember the thrill of watching Arthur Lismer drawing his own hand. I was 11 years old. I graduated in 1967 from the 1st Fine Arts Program offered at Sir George Williams University. My past and current art practice includes printmaking: etching, collography and lithography. I enjoy a dedicated practice in drawing. Ongoing experimentation as a painter includes oil / encaustic and acrylic on canvas. I tend always to emphasize line, texture, transparency and layering. The work is sensual, tactile, physical. The poet in me likes to address the image as a metaphor or a symbol. Nature, the human figure and utilitarian objects are all subjects that I celebrate. What I hope to express is the growing reverance I have for the miracle of life. Photo-images echoing the past recur in both print and paint works. Playful collages that
integrate my passion for printmaking, drawing and love of paint are works
that develop the practice of art as prayer and invocation.
