| Ghitta Caiserman-Roth
was born in Montreal, Canada.
She started painting
as a child, under the guidance of Alexander Bercovitch, achieving a Honourable
Mention at the Art
Association of Montreal Spring Exhibition at age eleven.
She later graduated
from the Parson's School of Design in New York City with a post-graduate
scholarship.
She also studied at
the American Artists' School, The Art Students' League, and with the painter
Moses Soyer.
Worked with Albert
Dumouchel in Graphics at the École des Beaux Arts, Montreal, under
a Canada
Council Senior Fellowship
in 1961-1962.
First major sale, Ghitta
Caiserman-Roth feels, was to A.Y. Jackson, and her first major public gallery
sale
was her painting "Backyard"
to the Vancouver Art Gallery in 1949.
